I differentiate.

I transform a function into its derivative.

I change an expression involving variables by transformation into an expression representing the rate of change of the function with respect to an independent variable.

I make a collection of symbols that jointly express a quantity including as a necessary part quantities that during calculations are assumed to vary in value different by a process by which one function is converted into a collection of symbols that jointly express a quantity standing for the quantity by which the expression involving variables becomes different with respect to a quantity that during a calculation is assumed to vary in value and whose variation does not depend on that of another.
